Hi everyone! Today we're making a retention script for backups. It is written in bash on linux. You can use bash on other platforms as well and it will be the same but since it is the native shell of ubuntu 23.04, which I'm using atm, I will use it here. This script is going to give you 6 daily backup and 3 weekly backup retention. The backup script is seperate and will be shown in a different video. We're gonna use globbing to rename files and find them. Pretty cool stuff. As always, let me know if you have any questions. Write me an email on hauisminecraft@gmail.com or add me on matrix @haui:matrix.giftedmc.com Also, the question I asked on stack overflow is this one: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/77514672/make-backup-removal-logic-in-bash Feel free to request a video on linux, scripting and admin things and I will consider making it. 😃 If you would like to support my work, consider donating on https://patreon.com/haui111
Hi there! In case you need someone to explain this stuff instead of just reading about it (like I do sometimes), then this is for your. :)
I love rsnapshot, but prefer snapshots on COW filesystems ;)
