This looks amazing! Any chance in the future itll be possible to also preserve videos? Maybe if i download a webpage and provide the mp4 myself? So i could save a YouTube link and then upload the mp4 of the video i saved using yt-dlp
Any chance your project will be opensource and use activitypub?

Is there a guide for switching over?
Whats it called on ios? Keepassium?
I switched to proton pass after using bitwarden for a couple years
How do you install security updates etc without restarting?
Linux servers prompt you do restart after certain updates do you just not restart?
That’s super convenient
Do people use Tailscale to be able to access local things on their network like Plex media servers when they’re not home? Tailscale looks interesting but I haven’t found a usecase where it would benefit me
I tried it, I still can upload files to the server when I go to Upload Files section but it redirect to the 404 I think due to the Short Urls. The images still upload to the server fine but its a hassle because it always looks like it fails. I don’t know how to fix the Short Urls issue though
and if i try to upload an image from the Upload Image section when editing the wiki it gives me the old HTTP 500 error.
the problem is that it thinks the files are located at /view/File:filename.png
but they’re really located at index.php?title=File:filename.png
What info do you need? The error seems to be due to the Short Urls feature. If I go to the Upload File section and upload a file it redirects to the file but gives a 404 message but when I go to the list of uploaded files I can see all the files have actually uploaded.
Oh I didn’t know there was two but I just checked the webserver php.ini file and that has file_uploads = On as well and still no luck
When i figure out how to hide ip addresses from logged out users and how to implement the short url so it doesnt show index.php on my url ill finally be able to finish launching my wiki on mediawiki.
But yeah like you said there’s barely documentation and its really hard to get a reply on the support page
Some might say they’re freeing themselves in a way though. Self hosting requires dedicating time you could spend doing other things especially when things break. People pay for convenience and saving time. When we simplify self hosting and updating to a point people can just download apps and press go then it will make sense for the average person
Where’s the art from? Its very fitting
Oh I thought closing the instance sent a delete request to all instances to delete all user data.
Do you know a way I can backup the database without any of the pictrs data and still be able to resurrect the instance? We didnt really upload images anyways and id rather keep the backup small making it more likely i can resurrect the instance in the future when i get more money and find cheaper hosting
