Reliability in that I’ve used flash drives and SD cards for years but have only ever had issues with corrupt SD cards (probably at least half a dozen times) while I’ve never had any with flash drives.

Constant writes is an issue with them, which is why I think it’s stupid that the Raspberry Pi Foundation continues to use them as the default storage/OS drive. Then again, they continue to make insane choices with power supplies as well, so it shouldn’t be a big surprise.

In my experience, flash drives are way more reliable than SD cards and I’d put SSD and HDD above both of those.

I wish they’d just ditch the SD card on the Pi already as it’s always the most likely reason why your stuff stops working. For my Pi running Home Assistant, I’ve swapped to an SDD as the boot drive. For the others, I still use SD cards but they’re just doing basic stuff like running Klipper on my 3d printer or a (WIP) live photo frame that can be easily swapped with a replacement SD later.

The storage for Jellyfin is a NAS. You can run it on a Synology NAS too. This is the same thing just DIY.

Network attached storage? I don’t see the issue with OPs usage of the term.

It’s not very efficient to have an array of 2TB drives versus a single 16TB drive for example. That’s a lot of extra required power and ports for little gain under home use.

Just FYI for anyone else, you don’t need to run the *arrs through a VPN only your torrent client as that’s where your IP gets exposed to the outside world.

So just an FYI Mullvad isn’t a good option for torrenting anymore as they removed port forwarding from their service. You need port forwarding in order to seed files to others in most cases. I switched to AirVPN after Mullvad removed this option and have been satisfied.

You may need to play around with quality settings (pr trackers) if you notice that it never downloads season packs.

Also when you add a new show, at the bottom of the window, there should be a checkbox asking you whether or not you want it to automatically search for missing episodes, so be sure that’s checked.

Even a Raspberry Pi kit will blow that budget, but they may find some used SFF office PC for around that price.
